Hi, I’m Carly

Hi, I’m Dr. Dee

I am a licensed professional counselor, professor, coach, and hold a doctorate in psychology. I have more than 36 years of clinical experience across community agencies, psychiatric hospitals, residential programs, military and substance use settings, trauma services, private practice, and therapist training programs.

Over the course of my career, I’ve worked with clients across the lifespan, taught and mentored early-career therapists as they transitioned from theory to real-world practice.

Again and again, I saw the same pattern.

Talented, thoughtful clinicians quietly questioning themselves.

Not because they lacked skill.

Because they had not yet stabilized their clinical identity.

Early in my own career, I believed confidence would simply come with time. I took trainings. I worked hard. I assumed experience alone would quiet the internal second-guessing.

Eventually, I realized something important.

Confidence is not just a product of time.

It is built through intentional reflection, decision refinement, and learning how to stay steady in the room.

That realization shaped the rest of my professional path.

Today, my mission is simple:

To help early-career therapists stop performing and start practicing from a grounded, confident clinical identity — without waiting years for that steadiness to arrive.

I believe confidence is not about having all the answers.

It is about feeling internally settled enough to trust your judgment in real time.

When therapists feel grounded, clients feel it.

And the work deepens.

Outside of my clinical and coaching work, I remain deeply committed to supporting therapists in building sustainable, fulfilling careers that honor both their clients and themselves.

The early years of practice shape everything that follows. My goal is to help clinicians build that foundation intentionally, so their confidence grows from steadiness rather than strain.

Woodworker

Outside of my clinical work, I spend time in my woodshop. I have tried many art mediums and find wood the perfect fit.

There's something grounding about shaping raw material into something steady and useful. Wood demands patience.

You can't rush the process without compromising the structure.

That mindset carries into my work with therapists

Confidence isn't forced. It's crafted.

Layer by layer. With intention and care.

Lifelong Learner & Mentor

I've always been drawn to teaching and mentoring. Not in a performative way, but in the quiet refinement of thinking and growth.

I value thoughtful dialogue, deep questions, and helping clinicians slow down enough to see what is actually happening beneath the surface.

Professional identity matures through reflection. I believe mentorship accelerates that process.

Tree Hugger

I value steadiness in my own life as much as I do in the therapy room.

Years ago, I discovered the grounding power of trees. There's something regulating about standing near something rooted, stable, and quietly alive.

Long walks, time outdoors, meaningful conversations, and creating with my hands help me stay centered.

The same qualities that stabilize a clinician — patience, presence, and internal organization — are the ones I intentionally cultivate in my own life.
